No reason to raise legal fees

GEORGE TOWN (May 25, 2011): There is no reason for law firms to raise their fees on the basis of a digital certification payment imposed on them under the new e-filing system, Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria said today.

He pointed out that the RM1,500 fee payable to MSC Trustgate.com Sdn Bhd for digital verification of court documents filed electronically was for a two-year period.

“There is no prohibitive cost,” he said when asked to comment on concerns raised by lawyers over additional charges for the introduction of the system in courts throughout the peninsula.

He said the authorities had worked out with CIMB and other banks for direct B2B (business-to-business) payment system for e-filing to be effective June 1.
